Author of the books “Goldene Äpfel – Sinnbilder des Lebens” (Golden Apples – Symbols of Life), “Spuren der Zukunft – Vom Systemdenken zur Teampraxis” (Traces of the Future – From Systems Thinking to Team Practice) and “Der Sinn für das Ganze – Von der fragmentierten Gegenwart zur systemischen Zukunft” (The Sense of the Whole – From the Fragmented Present to a Systemic Future).
Our current challenge increasingly turns out to be a systemic one and we are required to encounter the dynamic processes of change with an expanded consciousness and the ability of systemic thinking. As systems in a world of systems humans have the systemic, so to say, running in their blood. If we wish to avoid the corrosive influence of fragmented thinking, which results in loss of meaning, deficiencies and lethargy, there is no way of getting around the systemic approach.
Companies can be regarded as living organisms with a dynamic culture and functionally aligned complex interactions. Systemic business consultancy does not simply deal with blocking symptoms or attempts to solve problems by recipes, but applies the lever on the level of the root-causes. Thus, a large and lasting effect can often be achieved with relatively little effort.
The stormy changes in society and economy have sharpened the view for elementary principles in management. Models of future development show a tendency away from hierarchical structures to more decentralized, participatory forms of organizations. This special character of Learning Organizations results from the dynamic interplay between the competencies and interrelationships of its members and the quality of leadership. Leadership takes on a central key function, because it is primarily responsible for maintaining systemic openness and alignment. If the function of leadership is missing or weakened, this development leads to the destabilization of the whole system, which consequently can manifest itself through manifold symptoms on different structural levels.
Everything is in flow and in a dynamic process of learning and changing. Systemically nothing stands still. Nothing lasts forever. Those who do not develop further fall back and lose their self-effectiveness. The decrease of systemic vitality accompanied by symptoms such as loss of meaning, identity collapse and lack of orientation is the consequence of this kind of blockade. Personal, as well as collective development of awareness and systemic maturity evolution start at the root of such undesirable development and establish a protection against paralysing habits and heedlessness which could endanger the thoughts and actions of individuals, organizations and, indeed, whole levels of the population.
Language is more than just speaking and having said doesn’t necessarily mean being understood. Human communication is like a bridge between two or more worlds. When people encounter others, different mind-sets come together. The basis of understanding within communication can be strengthened by meeting people in their respective world of inner meaning and, beyond words, by adopting an attentive and respectful attitude towards their underlying needs. The postulate of systemic communication lies in taking on responsibility for what actually is received by the listener and not simply for what is sent out by the transmitter.
